Growth in The Middle: Arriving on the Scene – MIKTA

So forget the BRICS, or even IBSA.  The newest grouping is MIKTA.  MIKTA stands for Mexico, Indonesia, Korea, Turkey and Australia.  All these countries are members of the G20.  It would seem that the group met at the margins of the UN General Assembly opening.

So what’s this all about?  What doe we know.  Apparently the group is meeting at the Foreign Minister’s level.  The group has agreed to meet twice a year – once at the margin of the G20 and then at another event. Apparently the group worked on its mandate and direction.  They seemed to be “eyeing” subjects that appear to be possible future G20 issues – cybersecurity, climate change, possibly nuclear security.  This may then be middle powers doing what they do best – acting to bridge established and rising powers over significant issues that face G20 Leaders.

We need wait and see.  And what is a “middle power”?
